We Enthusiastically Support Legal Immigration & Naturalization

Naturalization ceremony

We recognize and applaud the fact the U.S. naturalizes nearly a 1,000,000 immigrants a year- more than any other country in the world. They, like ourselves and those before us, infuse the country with their energy, ideas, work ethic, and a love of liberty. They also followed the law on their path to citizenship.

Illegal aliens have shown a disregard for the rule of law, and accepting that stance is an affront to those who complied and breaks down our society.

There are other concerns as well. Businesses routinely exploit this pool of black market labor- paying subsistence wages that require illegals to frequently rely much more heavily on government support that citizens' earnings have to pay for (in GA alone, it runs into billions of dollars, paid from families' earnings through taxes)

Amnesty Bill1,198 page U.S. Senate bill 744, which passed on June 27, 2013, would immediately legalize over 10,000,000 illegal aliens and fast track their path to citizenship- without any guarantees to close our borders or to monitor the millions of people in the country who overstay their visas. The federal government sold us this promise in 1986 as a solution and it didn't work then either- which even the liberal New York Times admitted soon afterwards (read entire article here):

How will this affect you?
Just in GA:

- All illegal aliens will be granted legal status and immediately become eligible to compete openly for U.S. jobs and receive taxpayer supported services & benefits

- Increased Medicaid costs alone are estimated to rise by $3,200,000; many other state government services and benefits will add  substantially more expenses

- Unlike the federal government, GA cannot print money, and our state Constitution requires a balanced budget

- Therefore, money for vastly increased numbers of  newly-legalized aliens will have to be cut from existing programs.

- Since GA spends about half its budget on education, it  will be hard hit: fewer teachers, shorter school years... GA falls further  behind

- Less money for vital transportation construction and  maintenance, law enforcement, and other vital programs

What Should We Do ?
We do not support wholesale deportations. There is a better, more compassionate & practical path.

We believe the federal government must first stop the flow of illegal aliens: secure our borders and implement effective visa monitoring & enforcement. Concurrently, undertake the serious and necessary discussion about illegal aliens who are already here. The Senate amnesty bill has no such assurances- just promises.

We support universal use & enforcement of e-verify, a quick, easy, and automated program employers & governments can use to validate an applicant's citizenship status when applying for jobs and taxpayer-funded government benefits and services.

We support effective limits on government benefits and services.

We support enforcement of existing laws on aliens visiting on a visa... and the need to confront the many who break the law by remaining beyond their approved visit.

Call To Action:

Citizen efforts effectively blocked the last amnesty bill several years ago, and we have to mobilize everyone on our contact lists to block this one too.

If you cannot stop in to our senators’ Atlanta offices to oppose Senate bill 744 in person, call their offices in the morning and afternoon daily with a very brief message like this, “Hi, this is ______. I live in Fayette County, GA. I vote, and I strongly oppose Senate bill 744 to legalize illegals. My neighbors and I strongly urge Senator [Chambliss/Isaacson] to oppose this bill and I will follow his vote carefully. Thank you.”

Call GA Senators Saxby Chambliss (770-763-9090) and Johnny Isaacson (770-661-0999)
